When you were growing up, did you read Winnie the Pooh? It’s a timeless classic. Pooh Bear and his friends have been a favorite for generations. The tales of Winnie the Pooh are heartwarming and bring out the best in all of us. We’ve created a delightful Winnie the Pooh Hundred Acre Wood picnic that will be fun for both kids and adults.
About the Movie
Winnie the Pooh is a 2011 Walt Disney animated film based on the novel by A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard. The charming story takes place inside a storybook, whose letters can be seen around many of the scenes.
The plot is based on three stories inspired by A.A. Milne, which adds up to a busy and adventurous day for Pooh and his friends. When Eeyore loses his tail, the friends start a contest to see who can find a new one for him with a pot of honey going to the winner. Amid the search for Eeyore’s tail, Owl mistakenly relates the news that Christopher Robin has been abducted. All ends well when Pooh finds a land of sweet delights.
The tablescape & Decor
We hosted our Winnie the Pooh picnic under our big Maple tree. The decor was simple and focused on natural elements like rustic wooden serving pieces, sunflowers in vintage Ball jars, and a color scheme of cream, buttery yellow and goldenrod. We featured one of our favorite vintage linen sets that was a gift from my dear friend, Mort. The set was hand made in the 1930’s and seemed a perfect choice for this theme.
We created an adorable “Bee Tree” from a styrofoam cone and donut holes. Little candy bees on wires were attached and buzzed around the tree. This fun centerpiece was not only cute but very sweet and fun to eat.
Our picnic tablecloth featured Pooh and his friends. The cotton print has a creamy background and simple color scheme. You can purchase the fabric here. We used simple white dishes, rustic wooden chargers, and farmhouse mugs for our place settings.
We wrapped wooden silverware in a red napkin and tied it up with a sunflower napkin ring. We’ve featured floral DIY napkin rings on various dinners using flowers specific to the dinner theme. The napkin rings are quick, easy, and affordable to make. Get our flower napkin ring tutorial here.
The Menu
This menu will appeal to children and all that are young at heart. We chose simple, tasty, and whimsical dishes that reflected Pooh and his friends. You can get all the recipes below.
Lemonade
Cool lemonade is a delicious and refreshing drink for any picnic. We hosted this picnic during a heat spell and the icy lemonade was a hit!
Pooh's Picnic Sandwiches
We served English tea sandwiches with a Winnie the Pooh twist: peanut butter & honey on sunflower honey bread shaped like a bear, egg salad and pea shoot served on white in a sunflower shape, and cucumber & herbed cream cheese on light rye in a shirt shape. You can get our favorite tea sandwich recipes along with shopping links for the cookie cutters we used here.
Rabbit's Veggie Pots
We picked some delicious fresh veggies from Rabbit’s garden patch and served them in little “Hunny” pots. Add a little ranch dressing to the bottoms of the pots for fun dipping! You can get our simple tutorial for making the “Hunny” pots filled with fresh veggies here.
Apricot Sage Scones
We love Martha Stewart’s apricot sage scones and thought they were perfect for a picnic in the Hundred Acre Wood. The scones are delicious served with juicy peaches or apricots, creamy yogurt, and sweet honey. Get Martha’s recipe here.
Tigger Tails
Tigger is a character that just makes you smile! He is, indeed, a wonderful thing! These Tigger Tails are simple, sweet, and so fun to eat! They only require three ingredients and a few minutes. Get our easy tutorial here.
Rabbit's "Kerit" Desserts
If you’ve visited Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom, you may have tried Rabbit’s Garden Chocolate Pudding. It’s so yummy! We decided to create our own version of it for this party. It only requires three ingredients and a few minutes to prepare. Get our recipe here.
Hundred Acre Wood Cupcakes
We had fun creating these cute cupcakes. Our honey bee cupcake has a vanilla base and is mounded with light yellow cream cheese frosting which is drizzled with honey and topped with a candy bee. Our Eeyore cupcake has a delicious fudgy chocolate base and is topped with blue buttercream and a cute fondant and Oreo tail. Get our chocolate cupcake recipe and decorating tutorials for both cupcakes using the links above.
