Minnie Mouse Fruit Bowl
Ingredients
- 1 large watermelon (reserve the fruit; cube or ball 1–2 cups)
- 1–2 cups cantaloupe, sliced or cubed
- 1–2 cups strawberries, trimmed
- 1–2 cups red grapes
- 1–2 cups green grapes
- 1–2 cups black grapes
- ½–1 cup blueberries
Equipment
- Large cutting board
- Large sharp knife
- Large spoon
- Large bowl
- Hammer
- 4–6 nails
- Large tray
Instructions
- Place the watermelon on a large tray or cutting board. Slice it in half crosswise. Set one half aside and keep the other half on the board.
- From the half you’re working with, slice a small wedge off the bottom to create a flat base. Discard the wedge.
- Hollow out this watermelon half using a large spoon, reserving the fruit for later. This hollowed half will become the bowl.
- From the remaining watermelon half, cut two rounded sections to form Minnie’s ears.
- Hollow out each ear section, reserving the fruit.
- Trim a small portion from the inner edge of each ear to create a slightly concave surface where it will attach to the bowl.
- Lay each ear flat and carefully drive nails into the rind at a slight angle, keeping them parallel to the concave edge.
- Position the ears on top of the watermelon bowl and gently drive the nails into the bowl until secure.
- Fill the watermelon bowl with prepared fruit, arranging colors evenly for a balanced, cheerful look.
- Add a small nail between the ears and attach a fluffy bow to finish the Minnie-inspired design.
Helpful Tips
- Choose a watermelon with a wide, stable base to make carving and assembly easier.
Make sure all fruit is dry before filling the bowl to prevent excess moisture.
Assemble the bowl shortly before serving for the freshest presentation.
This fruit bowl works best as a same-day centerpiece, but fruit can be prepped a few hours ahead and refrigerated separately.
