DIY Mickey Mouse Placemats

Mickey Placemats

Materials

Heavy black felt, 18 x 18 inches per placemat
(½ yard of 72-inch-wide felt will make approximately four placemats)
Mickey Mouse placemat template (enlarged to approximately 15 inches wide)
White sewing pencil or chalk
Sewing shears or sharp fabric scissors
Optional: needle and white thread or sewing machine for decorative stitching

Mickey’s face: 14-inch circle
Each ear: 7-inch circle

Instructions

Lay the black felt flat on a large work surface.
Trace the Mickey silhouette template onto the felt using a white sewing pencil or chalk.
Carefully cut out the placemat using sewing shears or sharp fabric scissors.
If desired, add decorative stitching about ½ inch from the edge of the placemat.
- This can be done by hand with a simple running stitch using a needle and white thread, or
- With a sewing machine using a basting or straight stitch
This step is completely optional, but it adds a polished, finished detail that gives the placemats a boutique look.
Repeat for additional placemats.
