Deep in the forests of Salem you’ll find the cottage of the Sanderson Sisters. Their Spell Book, potion ingredients and cauldron still remain. Will they be back? No one knows.

the Tablescape & Decor
We transformed our dining room into the Sanderson Sisters’ cottage with lots of spooky details – a cauldron filled with dead flowers, bottles of potion ingredients, their spell book, and the infamous black flame candle. Scroll to see photos and get shopping links at the end of the post.
We dressed our table in a classic linen hemstitch tablecloth and draped it it with an ivory cheesecloth runner.
Our centerpiece was a ceramic cauldron filled with black billy balls, Chinese lantern stems, twigs, and green spiky foliage. We purchased the cauldron at Michaels and it’s beautiful.
We paired our cauldron with a DIY black flame candle. We created it using this printable from Eat the Dead. We simply printed their pdf on plastic inkjet transparency and wrapped it around a battery operated ivory pillar candle.
Pewter candle holders and tapers, a black felt raven, a small pewter pitcher, and a decorative skull sitting atop a stack of vintage books completed our table decor.
Our place settings were nestled atop silver scrollwork chargers. The scalloped edges have a nice colonial look. We added a black stoneware dinner plate, an orange stoneware salad plate, and Halloween appetizer plates. We got the appetizer plates at Target and chose to mix the raven and cat with pumpkin designs.
Last year we picked up some spooky skeleton hand goblets at Dollar Tree. They are so fun to use on a Halloween tablescape and are a bargain at $1.25 each. If your Dollar Tree is out they are also available on Amazon.
The last fun detail in our place settings was black napkins tied with jute and embellished with adorable miniature witch brooms. These brooms make a really fun favor for guests to take home after the party.
We carried the spooky decor to our serving buffet and added decorative bats to the wall and hung witch hats from the ceiling. A black feather wreath adorned with a butterfly was hung over our black mirror.
We also displayed DIY bottles of potion ingredients, a beautiful leather bound Spell Book, a Sanderson Sisters tin sign, and a terrarium filled with a skull and potion ingredients from the woods.
To create the potion bottles we designed a set of custom potion jar labels and added them to our favorite glass bottles. The printables are available in our Hocus Pocus entertaining guide.
We were extremely impressed with the leather spell book that we purchased through Amazon. It is beautifully made and the details are gorgeous.
