Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas is the sweetest little ghost! We’ve created some cake balls to look like him. Creamy white cake is wrapped in a crunchy white candy coating. Little Zero even has a glowing orange nose.
These treats require just a few basic ingredients: white cake mix & frosting, white candy melts, orange ball candies, candy eyes, and marshmallows. Get our easy recipe below. These treats were featured on our Nightmare Before Christmas movie night.
Zero Cake Balls
Ingredients:
- 3 white cupcakes
- ⅓ cup vanilla frosting
- White candy melts
- Orange ball candies
- Candy eyes
- Marshmallows
- Powdered sugar
Instructions:
1. Crumble cupcakes into a medium mixing bowl. Add frosting and stir to combine. Roll 1 tablespoon of moist cake mixture into a ball. Place balls on a parchment lined baking sheet. Refrigerate until firm. Re-roll the chilled balls to smooth out, if needed. Gently shape into a strawberry shape. Place back in the freezer until fully hardened.
2. Melt the candy coating according to package directions using a double boiler or microwave. Pour the melted candy coating into a juice glass or pint jar. Using a fondue skewer, dip the cake ball into the coating until it is completely covered. Allow excess coating to drip off. Place on waxed paper to harden.
3. Slice the top third off a marshmallow. Dip the sticky side in powdered sugar. Slice the marshmallow in four quarters. Dip sticky sides in powdered sugar. Gently shape the pieces into triangles. Repeat until you’ve created ears for all the candy balls.
4. Dip a toothpick in melted candy melt and adhere orange candy noses candy eyes, and ears to the cake ball. Repeat with remaining cake balls.
