Baking Sheet
Parchment Paper
1½" star cookie cutter
Sharp knife
Cutting board
- 1 tube refrigerated breadstick dough (8 breadsticks)
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 block yellow cheese (colby jack or yellow cheddar), sliced ½" thick
- 8 bamboo skewers
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Open the breadstick dough and separate into 8 individual strips. Starting at one end of a hot dog, wrap a strip of dough firmly around the length of the hot dog in a spiral, overlapping slightly as you go. Press the dough firmly at both ends to seal and prevent it from shrinking back during baking.
Place the wrapped rocket dogs on the parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them evenly. Bake for 10 minutes until the dough is golden and cooked through.
Insert a bamboo skewer lengthwise through the bottom of the wrapped hot dog, pushing it up through the center until the tip of the skewer extends about 1" beyond the top of the hot dog. Wrap the tail end of the dough firmly around the base of the skewer to secure it in place.
Slice the yellow cheese into ½" thick slabs. Using a 1½" star cookie cutter, cut one star from each cheese slice for a total of 8 cheese stars.
Press a cheese star firmly onto the tip of each skewer so it sits on top of the hot dog.
Serve immediately, standing upright in a can or bucket filled with marbles to secure the skewers, or arranged on a platter.
