Even if you’re not a snake fan, this snake sandwich is truly a treat! It’s perfect for a Jungle Cruise movie night or jungle themed party. This recipe was featured on our Jungle Cruise party.
Snake Sandwich
Ingredients:
- 2 8-ounce French bread loaves, unsliced
- Red or orange bell pepper
- Green olive, pitted
- ½ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- 1 pound thinly sliced deli turkey
- 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 ripe avocados, thinly sliced
- Red leaf lettuce, washed and trimmed
- 1 pound cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
Instructions:
- Make sandwich spread – In a bowl, combine chili powder, cumin, salt, mayonnaise, sour cream, and onions. Stir to combine.
2. Add toppings – Slice bread loaves into half horizontally. Spread cut sides generously with sandwich spread. Layer lettuce, turkey, tomato, avocado, and cheese between halves and add top bread.
3. Assemble sandwich – Cut a 4-inch piece off the end of each sandwich. These end pieces will serve as the snake’s head and tail. Next carefully slice the remaining sandwich into diagonal slices. Arrange sandwiches in a wavy pattern to resemble a slithering snake.
4. Add head and tail – Cut bell pepper into 2-inch long tongue shape. Make a very small horizontal slice in the bread and place the tongue into the opening. Cut the green olive in half. Using toothpicks insert eyes into the sandwich. Add head and tail to slithering snake.
