I can’t believe my sweet girl is in the 8th grade this year. She was the reason we started homeschooling and what a blessed journey it has been! Today I would like to share her 8th grade homeschool curriculum. If you’d like to read more about the curricula we’ve chosen check out the post below.
8th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Picks
Anna is doing Challenge A through Classical Conversations this year. It’s a wonderfully robust program and she enjoys it very much. This is our family’s third year with Classical Conversations and I have to say that her years in Foundations and Essentials prepared her well for Challenge A.
One of the biggest adjustments to being in Challenge is managing the workload. Each week Anna prepares assignments from six strands (math, writing & literature, grammar, science, reasoning, and cartography). There is a strong emphasis on research and communication through writing and speech. During weekly meetings, she shares her work and discusses topics with her classmates and tutor.
We have been very impressed with the materials used in the Challenge A program. Challenge A is a fully comprehensive program without a lot of wiggle room for extras. Anna adores science and literature so we’ve sprinkled in a few other resources for her. We do Morning Time as a family so she is participating in American History, Bible, fine arts, and read-alouds with her brothers and I.

Our Thoughts About Challenge A
Anna has fallen in love with Challenge A! The materials are top notch and she is enjoying all the subjects, especially Latin. Because this is our first year of Challenge, the vast majority of our curricular choices are new. I had some reservations about giving up control of the subjects she studied but am delighted with the quality of the materials and thoughtful pedagogy behind the program.
Anna enjoys seeing friends and engaging in meaningful conversations each week. She has also done a terrific job being responsible for her work. As her mom, I feel great about the time management, research, and communication skills she’s developing.
This post is not intended to serve as an advertisement for the Challenge program, but we are impressed. If you’d like to learn more about Classical Conversations or Challenge in particular please comment below or contact me through email.
