Please read more to learn about our Disney Unit Study…
Our family enjoys classic Disney films, exploring world geography through Disney movies, and visiting Disney World. We thought it would be fun to learn more about the life and legacy of Walt Disney so we recently completed a unit study about the man behind the mouse. We have lots of fun details and free resources to share!
Walt Disney Unit Study
Bookshark created a free 2-week Walt Disney unit study based on the book, Who Was Walt Disney by Whitney Stewart. It’s an informative and engaging biography of Walt Disney’s life geared toward kids.
The study includes a detailed daily schedule with comprehension questions, timeline & mapping activities, vocabulary, dictation and copywork, and activity sheets. In addition, Bookshark includes numerous educational video clips and a recommended book list. This study is designed for ages 7-12 and is a must for Disney lovers and those planning a Disney trip.
The Walt Disney unit study can be completed in 30-40 minutes a day over two weeks or condensed into one giant Disney day. It can stand alone or be supplemented with Disney animation tutorials, crafts, watching movies, having a Disney party, and more. Please check out the details of Disney learning day below.
Our Family's Disney Learning Day
The book, activities, and videos were fun for the kids. Micah’s favorite activity was creating his own character using Bookshark’s character development chart.
We learned about the history of animation and Noah enjoyed creating his own flip book using Bookshark’s flipbook printable. They had fun creating their own unique flipbooks as well.
Anna’s favorite activity was creating a beautiful timeline of Walt Disney’s life. It was interesting to learn how world events and cultural influenced shaped his career and the Disney company.
A Disney study wouldn’t be complete without an art project. All three kids practiced drawing Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse using Disney’s free animation tutorials.
We completed our study by watching Steamboat Willie from 1928 and Snow White from 1937. We were inspired by Walt Disney’s creativity, vision, perseverance, and pioneering spirit.
Once our study was complete, we shifted our focus to creating some fun Disney-themed Christmas ornaments and celebrating with a Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas movie night. Please check out the posts below to learn how to make these easy and fun DIY ornaments and add some Disney magic to your Christmas through a Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas movie night!
